The Dark Knight breaks 1M
Posted by: darcyg47 on 2008-12-17 17:45:57We reported last week that 'The Dark Knight' Blu-ray had broken previous records after having sold 600,000 copies on the day of it's release. As expected, it has gone on to shatter the 1M copy mark after only 7 days of being released.
'The Dark Knight' is expected to be one of the format's all-time time best sellers, and with 1.7 million worldwide first week sales, that prediction looks like it should hold true. The previous record holder was Paramount's 'Iron Man' which sold 500,000 units in it's opening week.
The studio estimates that 'The Dark Knight' Blu-ray accounts for roughly 13 percent of the 13.5 million combined Blu-ray and DVD sales, which marks a huge step in terms of Blu-ray market acceptance. Warner also estimates that the BLu-ray edition should go on to sell over 2 million units worldwide.
Owners of the Blu-ray edition, with BD-Live enabled players, will have the opportunity to take part in a BD-Live chat with director Christopher Nolan.
